01 / The approach

From the workbench

Start with a working shape. Then make it specific.

Most small businesses do not need a vague “custom website.” They need a clear first job for the site to do, a system that fits the work, and a way to keep it current once the launch dust settles.

Retro Web Works turns that into a usable decision process: choose a site model, identify what must work on day one, and create a brief that can become a focused build rather than a long guessing game.

02 / Working principles

A site is a tool. Treat it like one.

01

Give every page a job.

A website should help someone understand, decide, or begin. If it does none of those, it is taking up space.

02

Make the work visible.

The right customer should be able to see the shape of the offer, the next step, and what a useful relationship looks like.

03

Keep it in working order.

Launch is a handoff, not a finish line. Clear upkeep keeps good work from becoming a neglected asset.

03 / Site models

The demonstration is the sales tool

Pick a starting point you can actually recognize.

These are not anonymous templates. They are working directions for the kind of business a site needs to support. Choose one, then make the first decisions visible in a brief.

A / 01

The Front Door

A clear first impression

A focused service website that explains what a business does, makes the next step obvious, and gives a prospect a reason to reach out.

Best for: Local services, independents, makers, and early-stage businesses.

  • Positioning-led home page
  • Services or offers
  • About and trust signals
  • Contact or consultation path

Essential — $80/month + $99 one-time setup

B / 02

The Workbench

A site built to qualify the right work

A more detailed service platform for businesses that need prospects to choose a service, explain their needs, and arrive ready for a useful conversation.

Best for: Studios, agencies, custom trades, consultants, and project-based businesses.

  • Service pathways
  • Project-fit questionnaire
  • Work or case-study structure
  • Quote or consultation routing

Professional — $125/month + $99 one-time setup

See Professional detailsUse this as a starting point

C / 03

The Field Guide

A site that earns attention over time

A content-led website that turns useful expertise into an organized body of work, attracting the right audience before a sales conversation begins.

Best for: Specialists, educators, niche retailers, creators, and authority-driven businesses.

  • Editorial landing page
  • Guide or resource library
  • Topic taxonomy
  • Conversion paths within content

Premium — $200/month + $99 one-time setup

See Premium detailsUse this as a starting point

Selecting a model opens a guided brief so the first conversation produces usable choices — not a pile of notes.

Not a fit if

  • A full online store with inventory, carts, and shipping as the main job
  • Custom software, a CRM build, or a heavy integration project
  • A large content migration, a multilingual rebuild, or a compliance-led system

Style patterns

See a direction before you name it.

These are not case studies and not live client results. They are style patterns inside the three models. Open a card to see the designed mini-site. Selecting one pre-loads that model in your brief.

04 / AI receptionist

Someone to take the call when you cannot

It answers. It takes a message. It can book the chair.

When you are with a customer, the next one still needs a person on the line. The receptionist covers that so the shop does not go quiet. Hours, services, a callback, the next open slot. Appointment businesses feel it first — a barber, a salon, a consult desk — but any shop that lives on the phone gets the same relief.

Answers common questions

Hours, services, where you are, what to bring. The questions you already answer every day.

Takes a message when you are busy

Name, number, what they need. You get the callback instead of a missed-call list.

Sets simple appointments

It can put someone on your calendar — a haircut, a consult, a Tuesday slot. You need a Google account. That is the calendar.

Included on Premium. We set it up after the Meet, on the site, the phone line, or both. Hard questions go to you.

It does not give medical, legal, or financial advice. It does not invent openings that are not on your calendar.

05 / Site care

The launch is not the last step

Keep the useful parts working.

A good site needs someone watching the ordinary things. You meet Greg Ferguson first. Setup and monthly care are charged after you both agree — Essential from $80/mo plus $99 setup. Line items and refunds live in the cart.

  1. 01

    Build a brief

Choose a site model and make the first decisions visible. Nothing is charged on this step.

  2. 02

    Greg emails a Google Meet

No booking widget and no checkout first. After you send the brief, the Meet link comes by email.

  3. 03

    Confirm fit on the call

You talk through the work, the plan, and whether this is the right shop. You can stop here with nothing owed.

  4. 04

    Pay setup + first month

Checkout is after you both agree. Essential is $179 the first month ($80 + $99). Professional $224. Premium $299. Then Stripe handles the monthly care.

  5. 05

    Build, launch, monthly care

A first version in about 1–2 weeks after you send copy and photos. Then hosting and the edit allowance on your plan.

Kept in working order

Clear copy, current offers, working forms, fast pages, and a reason for visitors to take the next step.

Secure enough for money

HTTPS, Stripe subscriptions, a private portal. Card details never touch our servers.

Applications you already run

If you already run an application, we can link it. You keep the app. If care ends, we remove the link. We do not keep or shut off the application.

You own the domain you register, in your name at the registrar. The site work is yours. We host and care for it while the monthly plan is paid.

Cancel anytime. If the monthly plan stops, the customer site can be paused. This marketing site stays up. There is no self-serve ZIP download — email Greg for a handoff by arrangement.

The $99 is coordination and launch help, not the registrar bill. First-year registration and renewals stay with you.

06 / Plans

Three monthly plans. One-time $99 setup on each.

Prices stay visible so the offer is not a mystery. You still send a brief and meet Greg Ferguson before anyone is charged.

A content edit is a photo swap, a change of hours, or a new blurb. A new site section or a redesign is not a monthly edit — that is new work.

Field note
